In recent days, social media platforms have been inundated with claims that the Katsina State Government spent an exorbitant amount on Ramadan feeding alone, surpassing other states with higher populations. However, it is essential to set the record straight and clarify that the 10 billion naira spent by the Katsina State Government was not solely dedicated to Ramadan feeding but was part of a comprehensive relief package aimed at alleviating the suffering of the people.

Governor Malam Dikko Radda of Katsina State has always been committed to ensuring the welfare of the people, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. Recognizing the economic challenges faced by the less privileged and the rising cost of essential commodities, he took decisive measures to address these issues through a well-thought-out relief package.

According to a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Media, Isa Miqdad, the relief package implemented by the Katsina State Government included various components, all aimed at providing support and relief to the people in need. One of the key components was the purchase and distribution of grains at subsidized rates. Approximately seven billion naira was allocated for this purpose, enabling the less privileged to access essential food items at affordable prices during Ramadan.

To ensure fairness and equitable distribution, the government collaborated with the 34 local government councils to procure 72,220 bags of millet, maize, and guinea corn. Each bag was initially priced at N65,000, but it was significantly reduced to N20,000 for the vulnerable population. This initiative ensured that the less privileged had access to grains, essential for their sustenance during the holy month.

In addition to the grain distribution, another vital element of the relief package was the provision of complimentary meals to the most underprivileged households. Every day since the commencement of Ramadan, the government has prepared and distributed a bag of rice to vulnerable individuals in each of the 361 wards. Specialized centers were also established in strategic locations to cater to those in need.

To support this program, 2,300 gallons of 25-liter cooking oil, 3,000 cartons of spices, and 400 bags of salt were set aside. Furthermore, an additional amount of N25,000 was allocated to each ward on a daily basis to facilitate the preparation of these meals. This comprehensive approach aimed to ensure that even the most impoverished individuals in rural communities had access to nutritious meals during Ramadan.

It is crucial to emphasize that the relief package implemented by the Katsina State Government was not solely focused on Ramadan feeding. The 10 billion naira expenditure encompassed various initiatives, including the procurement and distribution of grains, as well as the provision of complimentary meals. These efforts were aimed at addressing the diverse needs of the people and providing comprehensive relief during this challenging period.

While social media hype may create misconceptions, it is important to look beyond the sensationalized claims and understand the full scope of the Katsina State Government's initiatives. Governor Malam Dikko Radda's commitment to the welfare of the people is evident in the comprehensive relief package implemented. By addressing economic hardships and ensuring access to essential food items, the government has made a significant difference in the lives of the less privileged.

Let us not be swayed by social media narratives but appreciate the comprehensive efforts made by the Katsina State Government to alleviate the suffering of the people. The 10 billion naira expenditure was not solely dedicated to Ramadan feeding but was part of a holistic relief package aimed at providing support and relief to those in need.
